Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for December – breaking an English record.
Fernandes becomes the first footballer in the English elite league to be selected ‘Player of the Month’ four times in a single calendar year, having also won in February, May and November.
The Portuguese has emerged as a key figure at Old Trafford since joining Sporting 12 months ago. His arrival has added class and creativity to United midfield and he has been crucial in raising them to the top of the league this season.
His performances in December include an assist after coming on as a substitute in the 3-1 win over West Ham, two goals in the 6-2 win over Leeds, and involvement in games against Leicester and Wolves.
“Three goals and four assists was a complete month. Marking and assisting teammates is perfect. “I want to win trophies and other awards, but I’m really happy to make history,” Fernandes said after receiving the award.
“It is a long way before we start talking about being champions. “We have to keep working.”
“We play against one of the best teams in England and we know what it means for the fans, but the main goal is the same: three points,” concluded the Portuguese.
Otherwise, Fernandes won the race for December on a shortlist that included his team-mate Marcus Rashford, Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah and Manchester City defender John Stones. / Telegraphy /
