Gerry Marsden, performer of the Liverpool anthem, “You’ll Never Walk Alone” has passed away
Former Gerry and the Pacemakers singer Gerry Marsden has died at the age of 78.
He has been best known for the song “You’ll Never Walk Alone” which is the anthem of the Liverpool club.
The sad news has been confirmed on Twitter by his friend and collaborator, Pete Price.
It’s with a very heavy heart after speaking to the family that I have to tell you the Legendary Gerry Marsden MBE after a short illness which was an infection in his heart has sadly passed away. “With heartache, after talking to the family, I have to tell you that the legendary Gerry Marsden has passed away after a short illness as a result of a heart infection.
“I send all the love of the world to Pauline (his wife) and his family. “You’ll Never Walk Alone,” he wrote in his announcement.
Marsden, who in 1993 published an autobiographical book entitled “I’ll Never Walk Alone”, retired in 2001 after two heart surgeries. / Telegraph /
