The president of Juventus is under pressure after the European Super League project was disbanded.
“I remain convinced of the beauty of this project,” Agnelli told Reuters, confirming that the race could not continue.
“Undoubtedly… I mean, I do not think that project is still in operation now.”
“I will not say how many clubs contacted me within 24 hours asking me if they could join,” Agnelli continued.
“Maybe they lied, but I was contacted by a number of teams asking what they could do to join.”
The project was disbanded after six Premier League clubs decided to withdraw from the competition.
“There has been speculation to the extent that if six teams had broken away and threatened the Premier League policy they would have seen it as an attack on Brexit and their political scheme,” Agnelli explained.
The Juventus president was sharply criticized by UEFA President Alexander Ceferin who said on Monday that he has never seen a person lie as much as Agnelli.
“If you tell me other methods for merging such projects… if you would ask for the authorization of others, I do not think you would have done a project like this,” said Agnelli.
“Relationships are there, I have seen relationships change over time, some people are very confident that they will be open and talk to each other.”
“I do not think our industry is particularly honest and credible,” Agnelli added. /Telegraph/
